Specification
Which material suits the house
A plain comparison of the four materials people ask about. We will tell you which suits each opening at the survey.
| Material | Look | Lifespan | Maintenance | Price band | Where we use it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| uPVC | Smooth white or convincing woodgrain foils, with slightly fuller frames than aluminium. | Typically 20 to 30 years. | A wipe down a couple of times a year. | The most affordable. | Most replacement windows, sash lookalikes and everyday doors. |
| Aluminium | Slim, crisp sightlines in any RAL colour. | Typically 40 years or more. | Wash down; the powder coat never needs painting. | Mid to upper. | Bifolds, sliders, wide spans and dark colours in full sun. |
| Timber | Natural grain; the original for period houses. | 60 years or more if it is repainted on schedule. | Repaint or re-stain every five to eight years. | The highest. | For comparison. Our timber-effect uPVC sash keeps the look without the repainting. |
| Composite | A solid, deep-panelled door slab in over forty colours. | Typically 30 years or more. | Wipe clean; the colour does not fade or need painting. | Mid-range, for front and back doors. | Front doors that keep their colour and do not warp. |
Lifespans are typical figures for each material, not a guarantee. Prices depend on size and specification; the photo estimate gives you a real range.

Questions
Common questions
Something else? Ring 01494 000 000 or ask for a call back.
How accurate is the photo estimate?
It is a genuine range worked out from your photos and our current price book, not a marketing number. Most fixed quotes land inside the range. Your price is only fixed after a free survey, when we measure every opening and check the brickwork and lintels.
What do the photos need to show?
Stand back far enough to get the whole window or door in frame, in daylight if you can. One photo per elevation is ideal; close-ups of anything unusual help too. Phone photos are perfect.
Is the survey really free, and is there any pressure?
Yes, and no. A surveyor measures up, talks through options and leaves. The written quote follows by email, usually within two working days, and is valid for 30 days.
How long from order to fitting?
Typically four to six weeks for uPVC and six to eight for aluminium or made-to-measure composite doors. We confirm the fitting date when the frames arrive.
Are you FENSA registered?
Yes. Every replacement window and door is registered with FENSA and you receive the certificate for your records and for when you sell.
What does the guarantee cover?
Frames, glass units, hardware and our workmanship for ten years, backed by an independent insurance policy so it stands even if we were not around.
Do you take away the old windows?
Yes. Old frames and glass are removed and recycled, and the rubble from a bay rebuild goes in our van, not your bin.
